Wonderful macro! Love the colors!

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the field right out back of my house in Fort Worth, Texas. I love water and macro pictures so I just got down on all fours in the middle of the field to get the best shot possible!

Time

It was at 7:30 in the morning after a long night of working. To wind down before grabbing a nap I would go out and shoot my field with a new sunrise and points of view every morning. This sunrise was so beautiful I just walked into the field and shot the dew shining in the sun.

Lighting

Well it was all natural lighting. I loved how the early sunshine made the dew sparkle and the blades of grass show off the depths of the greens and reds in them. You also get different results from the angles of light vs the angles of your camera which can make all the difference in making the photo stand out.

Equipment

I just used the super macro setting on my amazing point & shoot, the Olympus TG-2.

Inspiration

Everything is so calm in the morning. The world is waking up but it's not screaming at you yet. I feel transported to a more magical place when the dew covers everything and the sun sets everything alight, like a field of diamonds.

Editing

I didn't post-process it all but the setting I shot it in was a magic Pop Art setting. I love using that setting for outdoors because it really makes the colors vividly beautiful, which is how I see all colors.

In my camera bag

I don't go anywhere without my Olympus TG-2. It is so versatile that it allows me to get close up up to 1-2 cm but also shoots great landscapes. I also love my Nikon d5100 and the 55-300mm lens and the way it allows me to bring the world I see closer to me.

Feedback

For a shot like this timing is key. I've tried replicating shots in the middle of a sunny afternoon after a rain shower but couldn't get it right. There is just too much sun. Morning dew with a soft sunrise is best because the depth of colors you get from that sun as opposed to afternoon sun is so much richer and diversified. It also brings that sparkle out of the water.
