Behind The Lens
Location
This was a retention pond in the Ft Worth, Texas area. I was dragged here by someone that wanted to fish but that never kept my attention so I got my camera out and started getting the sunset. It continued from there to the water lilies.Time
This was sunset in late summer/early fall so maybe about 7p. I'm definitely still working on hitting the golden hour sweet spot.Lighting
I usually miss the golden hour but here the sun setting right behind the lily really helped. The lily is also pale and delicate so the light also comes through the petals and gives it that light from within look.Equipment
I used my Olympus TG-2. No flash or tripod. I had in on the macro setting.Inspiration
I love taking macro shots, especially of flowers. Water is also one of my favorite mediums in life so a water lily was perfect. The sun was perfect. I love that this picture came from me being bored. I didn't exactly want to be there but I decided to make the best of it and ended up with a really great shot!Editing
There was no post-processing with this one. I just let nature do all the talking and it had a lot to say that evening.In my camera bag
Along with my Olympus TG-2, I usually carry my Nikon d5100 with the kit lens and my 55-300mm lens. I tend to favor equipment that gets me that macro or zoomed in shot of something.Feedback
A lot of times I will take several (most likely way too many) shot from different angles when I'm getting a macro shot with the sun behind something. Sometimes the sun will be directly behind causing a silhouette and some times a bokeh flare effect is better. Get out of the Rule-of-Thirds box or the everything-must-be-centered box. Don't be afraid to move your camera.
