This scene was located in Michigan in a " Halcyon..peaceful area with special habitats for many frogs, turtles, birds etc. created by retired teachers in Michigan. "Mister Frog" popped up and seemed "frozen "in this position as he looked over my grandson and I for several minutes. This was an unbelievable opportunity to take a closer look and see amazing details of our friend.

I'm a nurse /composer /photography "Sharing the Journey " (my song) using photography and music to help meet healthcare goals as well as educational goals for early childhood and beyond. This was taken in a private / "public invited " nature center around the home of a retired couple here in Michigan...(nature area named "Halcyon" meaning peaceful space which it certainly is.) I love to share nature with children (& all ages) and motivate them to become nature explorers ..which I know also can help prevent "nature deficit disorder". Some of grandchildren were observing this pond with me and I had my camera...ready for action...taking a closer look for frogs, turtles, dragonflies etc. This fascinating fellow stuck his head up out of the "duck weed" and seemed to be smiling and saying to us "Hey, What's up? Ribbit ". My grandson put his hand out as he said, I'd like to catch him" and I replied quietly with my figure to my lips..."oh , no ..not yet..let me take his picture". We both looked at "Mister Frog" ( he is the star of my song ,"Mister Frog, You Just Think You're Smart")...and I had my camera set on "sports mode".. Amazingly he did continued to stare at us for at least one minute as if he was attempting to figure out who we were. Kids love____ this image and it now on nature cards, matted prints and mug plus metal prints. He also has been an "icon" for the "Save the Frogs" song ( see and listen on my home page of a new website..diannebaker.com) and used also with organization www.savethefrogs.com. Yes, he swam away quickly when my grandson's hand moved. Splash!..he was gone ...and the duck weeds filled the hole. * nature deficit disorder" - coined phrase Richard Louv, researcher /author of 9 books / founder of now international "Children and Nature Foundation.org"Time
It was late afternoon and sun was shining between and over the trees like a spotlight on the pond for us. It was very quiet unlike some other times of the day when water critters and birds are more active.Lighting
As I mention above the lighting was taken care as the sunshine made it's way between and above the trees .Equipment
Cannon t6i, 2 lens, tripod ( not used in this situation) ..holder on camera to give more stability. ( actually has small tripod on bottom) Canon EOS Rebel T 6i.. lens that came with camera plus Cannon Zoom Lens EFSj 55-250 image stabilizer. machro . 585m/2.8ftInspiration
I 'm always inspired when I'm in nature and grandchildren's interest gave me more motivation to take a closer look and be ready for action.Editing
very little on this image ... perhaps little exposure with iPhoto" .. and cropping .In my camera bag
Canon EOS Rebel T 6i.. lens that came with camera plus Cannon Zoom Lens EFSj 55-250 image stabilizer. machro . 585m/2.8ft extra battery..cloth.lens covers..Feedback
be patient...move slowly quietly..perhaps being still for some time.. always taking a closer look in the whole picture before you zero in...try at different times of the day ... looking for good natural lighting
