Location
This photo was taken on a hike in British Columbia, Canada. This was one of three shots I took. The sunset was incredible that evening, it is completely 100% nature's beauty.Time
This is actually one of my most favourite images. I remember being later than usual hiking with my dogs, when I rounded a bend and saw this beautiful view. I was supposed to be hurrying back to my car before the gates were closed, but I couldn't resist taking some shots. The sunset was breathtaking and I couldn't take my eyes off it. Nature seems to have a way of captivating you, when you stop to look. It was so peaceful. This photo was taken at 6:53 pm on September 23, 2014. Thankfully when I got to my car the gates weren't closed. It would've been worth it if they were.Lighting
I wanted this image to draw attention to the sunset's natural lighting, and how it reflected both in the sky and in the water, in vibrant colours.Equipment
This was shot on an iPhone 4S. I used Camera+: 1/234s, ISO 50, f/2.4. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I absolutely love chasing sunsets. I was inspired to take this shot because every sunset is unique and the way the last rays were hitting the clouds gave a kind of surreal feeling and there was silence all around the lake, and I was the only one there besides my dogs, and I felt in that moment so alive. It was too beautiful not to capture.Editing
I originally took this shot in Camera+ so I used the 'sunset feature' to make the background and brush at the front, darker, in the landscape shot so the main focus was the sunset. Then I used 'enhance' in my camera roll before I uploaded to bring out more of the sunset's natural tones, and to make it pop a bit more.In my camera bag
For the last while, I've been shooting with my iPhone and using different lenses attachments. So I normally have my iPhone and 4 olloclips in my bag. I did not have the olloclips for this shot as I bought the lenses a month later. I love iphoneography as I nearly always have my phone on me, but I'm planning to invest in a Canon DSLR soon, to use as well.Feedback
In Canada, especially in Vancouver, we can have all kinds of weather in a matter of a few hours and I think what makes taking a sunset shot like this, is sometimes being in the right moment at the right time, and taking that moment to stop and take pictures rather than trying to be technical about it because I think you end up missing the magic of just being in that moment and capturing what your eyes see at first glance. I think sometimes this is better because you're conveying across in your picture the beauty you saw then, even if it's not necessarily the exact angle or perfect scenario you imagined. Often it comes out better.
