Behind The Lens

Location

On Klien Curacao, a small deserted island near Curacao in the Caribbean. The island has two large shipwrecks and the above abandoned lighthouse. It was once used as a recovery place for slaves after the Middle Passage to recover before being brought to the Slave Market. Wild sea turtles graze on the undersea grass nearby.

Time

About middday in April

Lighting

Natural sunlight is the best illumination

Equipment

My Canon T2i, kit lens,

Inspiration

It is a gorgeous wreck of a building. I photographed as much as I could of it. Sadly the interior was too dangerous to enter (or much get to) but the building's lines and curves where mesmerizing to me.

Editing

I like to keep my post-processing as slight as possible. I cropped and straightened this image but didn't mess around with much else.

In my camera bag

My Canon, kit lens, macro lens, telephoto lens, some filters, microfiber cleaning cloths, extra batteries/SD cards, a collapsible hood cover, and business cards.

Feedback

Shoot, shoot, shoot. Take the shot from as many angles as possible. Switch out lenses. Change the shutter speed. Filters, no filter. Just take as many images as you can, concentrate on your plane of focus, and be aware of shadows and backgrounds.
