It was a lovely day but the area where this handsome lad was giving us his gorgeous display was very shaded, I think that actually helped bring out his lovely jewel tones.Equipment
My Canon 2Ti and 18-55mm lens. I had this lens on to get his full display and then managed to get in close for this shot.Inspiration
I've always wanted a peacock shot with full spread feathers. So when I saw him giving us a display I just shot photo after photo. But I also did what I always recommend, and once I got the shot I wanted (which everyone has) I started playing around with different distances and angles. This was the result.Editing
I try to always be as realistic and true to the image as possible. So my post-processing is minimal. I straighten images, crop if necessary, and do the barest of color corrections.In my camera bag

Put a ridiculously large memory card in your camera and shoot. Shoot more photos than you think wise. Take from different angles, at different speeds, in different light. With and without a flash. Focus on different parts of your subject. But just take pictures. Tons of pictures. Sometimes the shot you had in mind is great but just as often the odd shot at the weird angle is the one that becomes fabulous.
