"God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, the courage to change the things which should be changed and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other."
- Dr. Reinhold Niebuhr
This work speaks to the confinement of addiction with the darkness and barbed wire circling the man. The glasses reflect a beer bottle buried in the sand representing the ever present potential of falling from the wagon. The AA chip hangs from the barbed wire as a beacon of hope while the glasses and hat is symbolic of the anonymity of the AA process. The title of the piece takes the "One day at a time" slogan down to the hour and minute to recognize the ongoing struggle of the addicted.
