Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the inside of our house through a glass sliding door that looks out to the deck. This starling was sitting on the deck with its feathers puffed out trying to stay warm. There was a light snow coming down.

Time

This photograph was taken in late afternoon in February.

Lighting

In Northern Kentucky in February the sun starts setting around 5:00. This photograph was taken around 4:30 in the afternoon as the sun was starting to set.

Equipment

This photograph was taken with a Sony sure shot camera. This camera has a built in zoom lens. This is the camera I used prior to getting my Nikon.

Inspiration

I was happened to look out my dining room glass sliding doors and saw this startling just sitting with feathers puffed out. I just grabbed my camera and took the shot. The starling stayed like that for another 10 minutes then flew away. I just took the one photograph.

Editing

The Sony camera I used does not support Raw format, therefore it was already in a jpeg format. I may have played with the contrast and brightness a little, but nothing major.

In my camera bag

This photo was taken with a older Sony camera with I used before I got a new Nikon. Now I primary use the Nikon. I usually carry only a small camera bag that will hang on my shoulder. I have one camera body (Nikon D3200) and two lens (15-55MM) and (55-300mm). I have a polarized filter for each lens and a neutral density filter small the smaller lens. I have several macro attachments lens for the (15-55mm) lens in case I wish to do macro photography. I also have a remote shutter release fob, several charged batteries and an extra flash card.

Feedback

Just take advantage of opportunities that arise for a good shot. It was as if the startling seemed to be posing for photograph, so I let it model for me.
