My wife and I like to visit New Hope in Bucks County Pennsylvania. The town has many little shops with various items and themes. We stopped into a shop called “The Creeper Gallery”, a haberdashery of Gothic Fine art, Antiques, and Peculiars.I had seen many curious items, this being one of them. I took the picture with my Nikon D7100, at f 2.8 - 1/60 - ISO 200, and the factory Camera Flash.Time
I believe we visited the mentioned shop sometime between noon and 4:00 pm EST. It was a slightly overcast day, but still quite a bit of natural light.Lighting
As I mentioned, I used the factory installed camera flash. It is not a bounce-flash or anything special.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7100, at f 2.8 - 1/60 - ISO 200settings and the Cameras Flash. I wanted the effect of a slow motion; a random free floating motion with the subject coming at you. I blacked out the background making an all black background canvas, then copy and pasted the subject with different levels of transparency. It was all done with my old version of Adobe PS which came on a CD which I purchased back in the later 1990's.Inspiration
When I had seen the subject, it was definitely eye catching and interesting. I believe it was early fall and Halloween decorations were all ready in many of the shops there. This subject was very spooky looking and a bit fierce, and what I did with the subject was from an idea I had when I had seen it.Editing
I love doing post-processing, it lets me express my creativity of which I have no over-abundance of, just an idea here and there for a hobby I enjoy when I have the time. Almost always, in my camera bag I haveMy Nikon D7100 camera, my 18-140mm lens and my 55-300mm lens. Two batteries, the charger and a/c cord, and the usb cable for computer hook-up. Sometimes if I am in a bit of a rush or simply don't have time on my side I will use my old Nikon Coolpix P80, and on a rare occasion I will use my dear-old Nikon FG20 which I have had since the 1980's.Feedback
My advice to anyone shooting a similar subject is to shoot around with your various settings, take many shots of the same subject. Shooting with a digital camera is great, not having to pay for developing with 4 - 7 shots. Use a high resolution setting to get a larger file which you can manipulate later. ALWAYS keep your original digital copy while making changes to the picture with software. Going back and starting over happens often. Besides Adobe PS, I use a variety of other picture software because some programs simply perform certain tasks much better than other. Faster, simpler, and a better result. Get as many programs that you can get. Sometimes even a free program which comes with a printer or something along those lines will pleasantly surprise you.
