Life is like a spiral. You end up where you began again and again but are different each time. I was there when the towers fell. After 10 years of service and travel I wound myself back in the city for only the third time. My feelings about 9-ll, freedom, America, and the future deeper by ten years of digging and roaming.
This is my first trip seeing the new Freedom Tower. I knew I wanted to capture it in a way that it had never been seen before. I wanted to feel the power of freedom and the cost I paid to earn my share. I also wanted to feel the awe of NYC and and the ephemeral nature of the moment.
This undisclosed roof top in Brooklyn became a target for my short trip to NY that I was fixed on for weeks. I was lucky enough to be granted these epic sunset colors on only my third visit. This is one shot captured with the 5DII and 24-70 Tamaron lens (thats all I have). The photo is edited twice in Camera Raw for sky and then the city, then blended in Photoshop using a mixture of luminosity masks and blend-if.
Private photoshop lessons and instruction available year round via Skype and Google Chat at $45-hr. Fine art digital retouching is also available. Contact me jason@JasonMatias.com for scheduling

Finally a shot that integrates the tower into the fabric of the city. I worked around the block from WTC but was home in bed with a bad cold on 911. I saw the planes hit and then saw the towers fall on television. My partner and I lived in Williamsburg one block from the river. We walked to the river with throngs of others and watched in silence as the disaster unfolded. Having worked as a temp in the towers I knew some of the victims. Your shot is incredible. I am stunned by its beauty.
