There are an estimated 400 oystercatchers in the Galapagos. We could hear this one repeatedly calling long before we arrived on the scene. A few yards away was her flightless chick which likely was the cause of her concern given that only a couple of hundred yards away in plain sight a Galapagos hawk was perched on a treetop.
