Sometimes I need to have a dog shoot, because I love to make furry friends. I know Leo the Australian Shepherd for a while now - and he's such a good boy - and you can see how he loves to run here. It wasn't easy to shoot this photo in the evening in the fading light.

We met at a black pine forest not so far away here in Eastern Austria - Liane and her dog Leo. We wanted to take some photos of Leo in the forest in the soft evening light. My plan was to also shoot some running photos - which is always a thrill because of its difficulty, especially in evening light conditions.Time
The shooting happened in the late afternoon and evening.Lighting
I always try to capture dogs in soft light situations - in the morning or evening. You will get a soft light and contrasts in the resulting image are manageable without much post production. I always try to keep my post production to a minimum. Light conditions like this and shooting a photo of a running dog means using high ISO values, so your de-noising techniques matters.Equipment
I've used a Canon EOS R6 Mark II and a Canon EF 70-200/4 L IS USMInspiration
I love dogs and as I have none at home I love to meet my furry friends for a shooting. Leo is an incredible dog - you can feel his joy when running while looking at this photo...and he's such a beautiful dog too. To take a photo of him running was on my list for a while.Editing
I always do some base processing in Lightroom as I always shoot in RAW format. I adjust the white balance there, equalize the histogram a little, do lens corrections and crop the photo. Exported to Photoshop I use the tonal correction, some dodge&burn techniques, probably do some minor adjustments like sharpening or increasing saturation but I avoid retouching my photos and they are *no* composites. In my camera bag

Action shots like this one in soft light conditions need some experience and practice. You could consider learning the basics first and try easier light conditions first as the settings of the camera and focusing can be quite difficult. So perhaps start with portrait shoots and slowly moving dogs first and step by step increase difficulty to avoid frustration - yours and the model's.
