Location
I met up with friends to go for dinner in a restaurant near the Thames when I noticed the lights reflected in the water.Time
It was early evening when the daylight was about to fade into night.Lighting
The natural lighting was in the perfect 'blue hour' between dusk and night. I had to be quick to press the shutter while I could still see the detail in the architecture against a lovely blue background before the night quickly encroached on the scene.Equipment
I used a Nikon D90 DSLR camera with an 18 – 100mm lens at f4 with ISO 200. The shutter speed was 1/8 second so I had to hand hold the camera by resting it on a wall. Natural lighting.Inspiration
I just loved the blue colour of the light with the artificial lights reflected in the water and Tower Bridge is so iconic.Editing
I only shoot in Raw so the image required a minimum of sharpening, that was all.In my camera bag
I normally travel light. I have a Nikon D7100 with a very versatile 18-300mm lens, a flash (and a tripod only if I think I will need one).Feedback
My, very obvious, advice is just to always to be aware of your surroundings and the way the light changes. Tower Bridge in ordinary daylight would not be as dramatic as this shot. Keep your eyes open and be quick to react when necessary.
