Awesome shot. That spot almost looks like it might be comfortable, although maybe not in the nude. :)

Location
This photo was taken at Heron Rocks on one of the Gulf Islands in BC CanadaTime
It was a September morning.Lighting
In 2011, if memory serves correct, BC had suffered a terrible number of forest fires. There were no fires in this area for miles but the sky was this pink and amber "apocalyptic" haze that lasted a few days. It was a fortuitous encounter to photograph. The unusual sandstone beach setting, the cavelike sides of Toby Island seen only when the tide is out and the diffused sunrise gave itself up for the lighting.Equipment
I hand-held a Canon G10 or G12 and took as many photos as possible.Inspiration
It was the event of the day, the unbelievable lighting and my friend wanting to pose womb-like in the hollow sandstone formation of the island that captured us both. We photographed this area early morning to the afternoon. In this particular photo it was shot quickly as not to draw attention incase other visitors came along.Editing
I post-processed this photo in photoshop, mostly the burn and dodge tool to bring out areas and colour changes w/ layers to help balance foreground and background....other than this I don't remember much about the process as I was entranced with it's gift and visually just stopped and said this is it.In my camera bag
I like to hike w/ only a small camera like now using the Finepix X100 and 2 pairs of eyeglasses. Someday soon I hope to carry a full frame compact like the Sony Alpha A7 mark II in keeping with travelling light and improving with photographic know-how.Feedback
I am a beginner with photography. So my advice is from a place of beginning. Technical skill comes with time, practice and the hit and miss. Don't be shy or let that shyness be a part of your own authenticity in the photographic experience. I am an artist-painter so I understand about starting something new, process and learning through our "so-called" mistakes. More often than not they give us the edge in our work. Maybe the camera and technical skill makes the photograph but ones own unique perception and sensibility finds the moment. It's a good place to start from. What is most important for me in photography is getting out into the natural environment, life outside of the studio, office, home, our thoughts and to be surprised and adventurous. Custom settings help a lot too. It's a good place to practice from. Also I like photoshop and have taught myself over the last 12 years to be able with tools and layers for example. Hope this is helpful. Thank you!
