This shot was taken into the ZOO in Veldhoven, Netherlands.Time
Shot was taken in the afternoon. Not a special time in case of the light, rather neutral I would say. Weather was nice so enough light was given.Lighting
The most important for me was that the chicks where exposed to the people in the very short range. So, I could use regular zoom to get really close and clean shot. The light was not so important due to the fact was almost neutral.Equipment
I did use my old fellow means NIKON D90 and Sigma 17-70. No tripod or any other special tools were used in that case.Inspiration
One of the biggest adventage of the ZOO is closeness of the animals you will never or rarely meet outside. Not at this kind of range for sure. So, it was obvious for me that I really need to make some shots. Great opportunity was given to me and I decided to use it to take as many shots as possible. The other thing is that I did not want to scare the chicks. That was enough for them, a lot of people were there. They were, the chicks separated from the parents I believe. So, I did use the time but in the reasonable manner.Editing
Yes, I did. To emphasize the chicks feelings, behavior I used B&W. This solution is the best to show the feelings and make the shots which act on imagination of the audience. In my camera bag
Well, I use my second fellow during my travels means case logic backpack. Nothing special inside. I am not professional. So, I use one set: NIKON D90 + Sigma 17-70. That's enough. Of course not forgetting about the snacks.Feedback
Do not scare wilde animals. Do not touch them even they are pretty close to you. Do not feed them. Try to make as many shots as possible in very short time. Think about the shot before. What crop, position your are going to use. That will make your life easier and for your objects specially. Do not give up, never. If not this time maybe next. Do not lose the opportunity. Sometimes there will be not second time. That's not equipment is making you photographer. That's you, only you. Limited equipment is making you more creative. So, go, take the shots and share them with others.
