Location
This photo was taken at a small town called Davenport, which is located just 10 miles north of Santa Cruz California.Time
Taken around 10 PM.Lighting
This is actually two different photos taken at different exposure times. The upper part is at 30 seconds to capture the stars, the lower portion taken near the same time was longer to get the details in the foreground and the water effect.Equipment
Canon 1D-X with a sturdy Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I have been inspired to shoot astrophotography for some time but unfortunately had no chance since I live near Los Angeles. This was my very first attempt at shooting the sky at night and I used information I learned online from other photographers to get a grasp on settings etc.Editing
I touched it up with some massaging in Darkroom as well as stacking the two photos and then erasing part of the top photo to reveal the next exposure. Very rudimentary but it accomplished what I wished to do.In my camera bag
I am a big fan of time exposures so I always have a "Big Stopper< my tripod and a wide angle lens.Feedback
The secret is to stay under 30 seconds or the stars will have streaks from the movement of the earth. Using a high ISO and open aperture will help get the stars exposure correct.
