This photo was taken in my home in Singapore, i was testing out high speed sync flash for a coming up job for a client.Time
I had this photo taken in a hot afternoon and this set up was done at the corner of my room, isolating it away from natural lights from the side windows and whereby i can relight this scene with my flashes.Lighting
Doing HSS flash photography are rather easy nowadays and most of the flashes are equipped with HSS features. With the help of light modifiers, we can better control the light spread and directions, dropping the slice of lemon and capturing this moment needs a lot of patience and trials to get that perfect shot.Equipment
i was using canon 5D mark III with a profoto b1 air and canon speed light which support HSS on my fast 1/1000 shutter speed to freeze those splashes.Inspiration
It was an experimental shot to prepare myself for my client's job and also to test out the profoto b1 air lights i had purchased, i am also the type of photographer who loves putting actions into still life.Editing
I always shoot Raw images on my camera so that i can get a neutral photo without getting it post processed by the camera. And my workflow always start off with processing the colours and details back on adobe lightroom and some retouches on photoshop to clean up the image a bit.In my camera bag
I always carry a light meter, colour chart apart from my camera equipments which are the camera body, 50mm lens, 85mm portrait lens, 70-200 tele lens, 100 macro lens, 17-35mm wide tele lens, 2 speedlites, off hot shoe radio trigger device, plentiful of memory cards and batteries. Guess how heavy they are <3Feedback
Shooting high speed sync flash requires high shutter speed normally at 1/1000 sec and above, f-stops can start off with F8 for a larger depth of field so that you can get really sharp details of the actions and ISO i will keep to between 100-400 to minimise noise on the dark areas. For such settings, you have to be aware that your flashes or strobes must have higher power to light up the subjects. Do feel free to email me atstephenchinphotography@gmail.com should you need any advise on this setup, i will be happy to share.
