Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the north eastern part of Singapore. It's very rare to find a vast green field of lalang in this modern busy city so it was a great to find a location where nature is untouched.

Time

This photo was taken in the noon on a perfect sunny day.

Lighting

This was the last set of gown that I have to shoot that crossed over to the hottest sun in the noon and we actually started way in the morning when the sun was much more softer. In order to compensate the overhead sunlight that creates a harsh shadow below the model's chin, I have to use a powerful strobe for this shot, it's just a one light setup on a big octa soft box which is good enough to fill and soften the shadows for a more natural light feel.

Equipment

This shot was done on a Sony A7 Mark II with the Sony Zeiss Fe 24-70mm F4 lens and a profoto b1 air with a octa softbox.

Inspiration

It was a collaboration with a makeup artist and a gown designer to create this visual for our Bali Prewedding Promotion launch.

Editing

Post processing is necessary in the digital age of photography, I always shoot raw files, having a camera with full frame sensor and 24 over megapixels resolution, I would not want to lose the amount of details and informations in the photo by just shooting jpeg. I did all the necessary adjustments on Lightroom for the tones, clarity, colours and contrast and after which i also did the skin retouching on a photoshop.

In my camera bag

I always make sure that there are 2 camera body in my bag, if one is down, I got a backup and inside my bag there will also have 1 speedlite, 16-35mm lens, 50mm and a 70-200mm lens.

Feedback

I always strive to create or form straight lines and I don't fancy super wide angle shots as the distortion is so prominent. Shooting a mid shot landscape portrait, I prefer to use a longer lens to get the compression effects between the subject and background, composing shots with some foreground elements will make it look more interesting as well.
