Lighting was all natural under shade with no flash/speed light. I prefer soft natural lighting with a darker background, which can't always be achieved, but is the initial goal.Equipment
Equipment used: Nikon D4 and Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 lens. I never use a tripod for street photography, only (if need be) for landscapes.Inspiration
While I have many favorites, this one is on top of my list. I'm always on the hunt for what I consider unique characters. I spotted Bob walking ahead of me several blocks, so at my slow pace I had to speed it up before it was to late as at every corner I lost sight and feared to have missed the opportunity for this shot. Once I caught up with him, I simply asked Bob for a photo, and also explaining my intentions to capture him and other interesting characters on the streets.Editing
My post processing consisted of PhotoShop CC and Nik Silver Efex Pro2 This was in my early stages of learning a new technique (to me) within Photoshop of B&W conversions. In my camera bag
While out on the streets I normally have a Nikon D810, Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 lens and a Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 lens to capture low, unique, point of view shots. For road trips I add a Nikon D4 and if need be a Nikon speed light SB-700 that I rarely use but available if needed.Feedback
My advice to others would be to have patience. My early stages of street photography happen to be a terrifying event, because I'm a little on the shy side and it forced me out of my comfort zone, so I consider street photography to be therapeutic. I have met some interesting and unique characters on the streets throughout various places, and found to never judge a book by it's cover. Some shots are candid and while others are posed. I prefer the candid shots, as they tend to be more natural with expression and body language. I usually find a comfortable place and wait for someone interesting to come in view. After 30 minutes or so, I'll move a few blocks to a different location.
