This is great photo to celebrate Earth Day. Knowing nowadays very difficult to take photos of the stars, milky way, and whatever astrology we have because of light pollution!. Voted Earth Day!

I like the light you use for light painting the scene. Usually people use light that is too warm and the problem with most LED lighting is it turns the foreground too green. Nicely done!

Location
The photo was taken At Sierra Blanca, New Mexico, USA.Time
It was taken at exactly 9:52:23 PM on February of 2014 In a sub zero degree on the bitterly winter night.Lighting
I used natural lights, lights from the stars, I used man-made which can be seen in the city far away in the place where I took the photo, and I did light painting on the Live Oak Tree to get some colors and details.Equipment
Of course tripod is my number friend to help get sharper photo at night the Manfroto 190XPROB Tripod, Canon Remote Controller TC-80N3, Canon EOS 1D X, Canon Lens EF 16-35mm F/2.8L II USM, Vixen Polarie Star Tracker, 1 Polarie Polar Axis Scope, 1 tripod for Polarie-Vixen X Velbon, 1 cellular phone ( for my sky google map), flash lightInspiration
My love for Astrophotography urges me to take photo of the Milky way and night photos. I love the lightings in the night. I am night owl so I am more active and crawler at night and do lots of things at night.Editing
Yes, I took Raw photos and stacked them in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Canon camera, canon lens 16-35mm, cable release, tripod (manfrotto)Feedback
You can browse the www.youcanseethemilkyway.com for more information. Bundle up because taking photos at night in arid is so cold even in summer. Bring also insect repellant. Have your tripod for more professional looking photograph. When using the Vixen Polarie star tracker you can use your cellular phone to locate the northern star. Just download the app SKY google map there is free download for that. Open the app point your phone in the sky and it will locate for you. Then, read the instruction in your vixen polarie on how to take photos of the milky way with the foreground in it. Or you can just take different exposures for the milky way, for the foreground with your light painting and stack them together in photoshop. By the way to focus the milky way, you can aim your lens to the brightest star and try to adjust them, take first shot and when you see it is not sharp try to adjust your focus or you can use your auto focus however get it back to manual. then put your camera using the other ball head to connect into your vixen polarie and aim it to your composition. Try to play with your composition too. You can google some youtube on how to take milky way if your want some more visual to get right in taking photos of the milky way. Don't forget to use your remote controller. Hook it up to your camera. When your camera is already working take the first shot with your lens cap on and with the same setting to detect the noise. Then open your lens cap and start taking the photo. Try to relax and enjoy the beauty of the night scenes. Try to think also if only human does not abuse nature WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD WE HAVE! Enjoy and keep shooting, the more we take photos the more we learn.
