Congratulations Helen. I told you: "Can't be better". You ought to win, or at least be a runner up.... But Finalist, what a great moment and recognition. I'm happy for you.

It's the "discarded" and his act of writing that makes this shot so much more compelling than simply a perfectly executed shot. So very well done.

A beautiful capture of the people who a lot of people miss. They choose to ignore to the point of these people almost being invisible.

This photograph is a masterpiece in every sense. Photographically speaking it is the very best, it is however the theme that makes it even more outstanding ... to me it shows what really is the society we live in ... a further and further brave new world or/and a Fahrenheit 451

Location
This Photo was taken in the City CBD.Time
This was taken in the afternoon, I had decided to take a short walk around the top end of the city after a morning appointment to see what or who I could find worth shooting in the small amount of daylight I had left in my day. I turned the first corner leading into the city and there he was, this beautiful man, sitting and totally absorbed in what he was writing. I knew immediately I had a wonderful subject in front of me.Lighting
The light around this gentleman was in my favour as the wall he lent on was blocking the afternoon sun and the light streaming from all other angles lit him up nicely.Equipment
I used a 70-200mm lens and shot this image which allowed me to be far enough away not to disturb my lovely subjectInspiration
I was inspired to take this photo because of how beautiful I thought he was sitting there and his obvious interest and preoccupation with what he was writing....he struck me as a strong individual with a solid sense of self in spite of his situation. He drew me in completely and still does each time I view this image. I often develop a fondness towards my subjects and in this case there is certainly no exception.Editing
I processed this image in Lightroom taking it from colour to b&w with processing including a fine balance between blacks, whites and contrast with sharpening to make it pop.In my camera bag
In my bag I carry a Canon 7D, 50mm prime, standard 24-105mm, wide angle 16-35mm, 70-200mm and flash but mostly choose a lens for the day depending on what I want to shoot.Feedback
Tips I would give is to be patient, sometimes you will need to wait for the right subject and shot, trust your instincts when choosing your subject and also be ready to shoot quickly before the moment is lost.
