"For reasons that are unknown today, Christian Bruns withdrew from the co-operation, but without giving up his work with shutters. In 1910 he applied for a patent on a shutter in which the exposure times were regulated by means of a mechanical retarding mechanism. At Carl Zeiss, the significance of this invention was recognized and the patent was acquired in order to place it at the disposal of Friedrich Deckel. This shutter was baptized with the name “Compur", a fusion of "Compound" and "Uhrwerk", the German for “clockwork” in reference to the retarding mechanism." Indeed, for a century the Compur shutter has adorned a large variety of cameras, but none more notable than those made by Zeiss!!

You have a very interesting gallery. Love the black & white portraits.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in an Antique store, with very patient staff who took this camera out of the display case for me to photograph.
Time
I took this photo in store after parking my car in a 1hour meter bay.
Lighting
I set the camera up on a bench very close to a window to use available light.
Equipment
Taken using Canon 7D. Exposure 0.6 sec at f2.8, 38mm, ISO 100, 16-35mm lens, tripod. Post-processed Lightroom 3.
Inspiration
The age, history and beauty of this wonderful camera inspired me to take this shot. This shutter was baptized with the name “Compur", a fusion of "Compound" and "Uhrwerk", the German for “clockwork” in reference to the retarding mechanism." Editing
I processed this image from RAW at a time when Lightroom 3 was a new learning experience for me. I've since learnt so much more about processing digital images.
In my camera bag
6. In my bag I carry a Canon 7D, 50mm prime, standard 24-105mm, wide angle 16-35mm, 70-200mm and flash but mostly choose a lens for the day depending on what I want to shoot.
Feedback
8. Tips I would give is to be patient, sometimes you will need to wait for the right subject and shot, trust your instincts when choosing your subject but also be ready to shoot quickly before the moment is lost.
