Well it's not far down to paradise, at least's not for me If the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility Oh the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see, believe me It's not far to never, never land, reason to pretend And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again Oh the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see, believe me Sailing, takes me away To where I've always heard it Just a dream and the wind to carry me Soon I will be free Fantasy, it gets the best of me when I'm sailing All caught up in the reverie Every word is a symphony, won't you believe me? Beautiful Helen… I can imagine a canvas-wrap print would fit perfectly in Christopher Cross' lyrics...

This photo was taken on board the Europa, one of the Tall ships at Williamstown for the Melbourne International Tall Ships Festival. "Tall ships from around the world sailed to Australia for the spectacular International Fleet Review, celebrating the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy Fleet into Sydney Harbour."Time
When the tall ships were due in, I had made a note in my diary not to miss the opportunity to get some images at different times during the day as the sun moved around. I shot from early morning until sunset, not to miss out on any aspect of any of the tall ships docked at those times.Lighting
Use the sun and shade and time of day to highlight in ways that enhance your image.Equipment
This was shot using Canon 7D, hand held. Exposure 1/250 at f4.5, 105mm, ISO 100, 70-200mm f2.8L lens.Inspiration
I had that excited feeling we photographers get when a terrific subject is going to be there in all of its glory just for the shooting! I've had a love of ships since I was a kid and have always felt at home around them. I've been known to say, I think I lived on board a tall ship in another life. I took most of my shots over two days sitting, even lying down on the decks or leaning backwards over the stern or the bow, from any angle or place to get the perspective I was after... nearly fell overboard once while going for a capture of the mast!Editing
This image was taken in RAW and Post-processed in Lightroom 4.4 At the time of processing this photo, I was a learner using Lightroom. Now that I've upgraded to Lightroom 5.7 and am much more familiar with the software. In my camera bag
I often head out with one lens if I know what I'll be shooting. Always a spare fully charged battery and lens cleaning cloth. However, if I take all of my gear with me I have a 50mm, 24-105mm 16-35mm and 70-200 lens. Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, Manfrotto Tripod, 804RC2 and 496RC2 heads.Feedback
Be prepared to move your body into different positions to create the best perspective and most pleasing capture.
