This photo was taken in Terlingua Texas. The bus is a rental "glamper" from a place called Tin Valley Retro Rentals.Time
It was February and the milky way was out just before sunrise. I was already set up on the tripod doing some astrophotography when this cloud cover rolled in and began to light up with the sunriseLighting
I took a few different shots with the bus lights on and off. In the end I felt that having the lights on made the subject pop more against the dramatic skyEquipment
It was pretty dark still so I needed the tripod and a remote to capture this.Inspiration
I was honestly more into the gorgeous dark skies in the area. The stars are absolutely stunning here. The fact that I got this beautiful sunrise was just a bonus.Editing
I exposed the original image to bring out the colors in the sky so I had to do some masking in lightroom to bring up the exposure in the foreground and then I masked the windows to bring the exposure back down on th the bus interior. In my camera bag
Back when I shot this I was typically hiking with my nikon d3400 on a skout harness and two zoom kit lenses, one for landscapes and one for wildlife. I've since upgraded to a nikon d850 and I typically hike with 3 lenses. A 50mm prime, a 14-24 mm, and a 70- 200mm. I also bring a small kind of pocket tripod. I've accepted the extra weight to my hiking bag as a necessity. I make up for it by utilizing water filtration and a Nemo 1.5 lb tent. Photography gear is definitely the majority of the weight I carry.Feedback
Having my shot already composed and thought out before the sunrise was definitely to my advantage here. Sunrises like this change color quickly and it's helpful to be all set up before it even starts.
