Location
This was a photo taken early in my Photography career when I lived on my grandmothers couch ha. This in my grandmothers backyard, in Willits CA. The amount of nature here is amazing, and the amount hummingbirds swirling around the woods there is just incredible really!Time
A magical time of day this was. Nature was buzzin', trees were softly blowing in the wind, I had set up my tripod a few hours earlier as I patiently waited for this moment after refilling my palm with sugar water time and time again because I simply don't have the shoulder strength of an olympic athlete. This was a time in my career when I knew I had to be doing the right thing!Lighting
I believe the shade from the trees above created a bit of softer light, which definitely added to the magic of the moment. Perhaps there is a reason why hummingbirds are feeding by the flocks at this time of day.Equipment
Sony A7Rii paired with a 24-70mm Sony GM lens. Also used some sort of travel tripod and an empty ketchup bottle full of sugar water ha.Inspiration
This was a time I had fully decided I wanted to work in media, and around cameras. At the time, I mostly did photography and being at my grandmothers house in Willits, CA completely surrounded by nature had me very inspired to take nature photos. In fact, there are a ton of deer there that eat flowers (of any kind) and I tried to get a similar shot feeding multiple deer a bouquet of roses. But my dog barked and spooked them ha! So I went with something more low key, and honestly wasn't sure I would ever get something like this. My grandmother told me they love sugar water, so I just went for it and trusted my auto focus lol.Editing
Yes, but like mostly just curve adjustments. At this early stage in my career I was still intimidated by photoshop and everything I did was in Capture ONE or Lightroom. In my camera bag
That can just depend on the day and the shoot. I used to have a go to list of things but as my career has evolved and I've gained more experience I typically just bring what I need and some back up accessories.Feedback
Patience is a virtue.
