Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in the Hang En - the Swallow Cave - the third largest cave in the world, located in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in central Vietnam.

Time

It was in the evening after our fabulous dinner inside the cave.

Lighting

The lights only came from the LEDlenser head lamp my girlfriend was wearing and the stones in the foreground were illuminated by the small lamps of the campsite which was inside the cave.

Equipment

A Fuji X100T with the WCL-X100 adapter (from 23mm -> 19mm) and a Gorillapod as a tripod. The headlamp was a LEDlenser H7.

Inspiration

I like photos with head lamps under the night sky - this time I only had the big hole in the cave to see the night sky and so I wanted to try if the head lamp is bright enough to reach this hole. I also didn't see any similar photos of this cave before and wanted to do something "new".

Editing

Just some small things like brighten the shadows.

In my camera bag

Now a Fuji X-T2 and some great Fuji prime lenses.

Feedback

Know the parameters you need for that kind of shot, think about what to do when you have people in the frame - for example decrease the exposure time and lift up the ISO. Play with the head lamp while the camera exposures to get different shots.
