Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo at the shoreline of Lake Tekapo on New Zealand's South Island. It's not one of the tourist spots next to the town of Tekapo where you find the famous little Church of the Good Shepherd - it's somewhere on the west side of the lake. I was on a hike to the Tekapo White Bluffs when I found this spot. Funfact: I tried to take a similar photo of this spot in February 2018 - in the summer months in New Zealand but had to realize that the water was much higher than on that late winter day in 2015 and so the stones were somewhere underwater.
Time
It was in the early evening - the daylight hours are not that much at winter days in New Zealand.
Lighting
As you see it was sunset - at first I was a little bit sad that there were no clouds in the sky. I really love that high clouds on sunset which are illuminated by the sun and makes the frame colorful. But when I look now at the photo it was the perfect light for that scene - it makes it even more calm in my eyes a good combination of the tones in the frame.
Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 6D together with the EF 16-35mm lens. Also a Sirui tripod, a 0.9 GND-filter and an 1.8 ND-Filter.
Inspiration
The whole scene - the mountains in the background, the crystal-clear water with small stones and the boulders in foreground and also the sunset.
Editing
Just the normal post-processing with a RAW-converter - tones, contrast and the image format. The 16:9 looks better for that photos because there was too much sky in the original ratio.
In my camera bag
Now I have a Fujifilm X-T2, a Samyang 12mm f/2.0, a Fujinon 23mm f/1.4, a Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 and a Fujinon 90mm f/2.0. Also some NISI and Rollei filters and my Sirui tripod (which fits also in my bag).
Feedback
At a place like a shoreline with many boulders it could be hard to find the "perfect" frame. If you have the chance have a look before the beginning of the sunset (or sunrise) for a nice place. Use your camera and the live view so can check really fast how it looks when you take a photo. Also you apps to check when an where will the sun set or rise. Use a smaller aperture to get most of the scene sharp.
