Behind The Lens

Location

At my cousin's wedding in New Jersey. It was part of the table's centerpiece

Time

Evening, inside the reception hall.

Lighting

This was one of the rare occasions where I did use specific lighting. In this case, I used an LED lens ring to illuminate the shot without glare.

Equipment

My Canon T2i, a macro lens, and my LED ring light.

Inspiration

I loved the bubbles against the flower petal. It was absolutely fascinating to me and I felt it would make a unique wedding photo for my cousins. They had hired their own professional but I figured a different eye would be nice.

Editing

As always, I try to do as little post-processing as possible. From what I recollect, I merely cropped this photo to remove lens distortions from the macro lens and adjusted the lighting/color as little as possible.

In my camera bag

My Canon T2i, a kit lens, a telephoto lens, a macro lens, a collapsible lens hood, a dozen microfiber cleaning cloths, about six different filters, back up SD card, spare batteries, remote control, and business cards.

Feedback

I'm lazy in that I really should be using a tripod set up to take macro images but 95% of my macro shots are done handheld only. My advice for other lazy people is hold your breath before taking a macro shot. It helps keep the lens still. Prop your hands whenever possible. And shoot like a hundred images of the same subject, take multiple angles, change lighting and shutter speed. But keep taking the shot.
