Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the beach at an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, DR (Dreams Punta Cana).

Time

This was just around sunset time. The light was amazing, casting a nice, warm glow over the beach

Lighting

Nothing more than natural sunset. It was pretty clear, so the light wasn't overly filtered. The colors, however, were spectacular

Equipment

Sony A99, Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 at f/4. I handheld the shot. Nothing more!

Inspiration

During my time at the resort, I'd been staring at these trees the whole time. The night I took this, there was this amazing, warm glow, and some great high, thin clouds. I pulled the trigger and walked down and got the shot. There wasn't anyone on the beach at the time, which gives it this desolate, windswept appearance (which really appealed to me)

Editing

Minimal post processing, including saturation and vibrance, plus some changes in highlights and shadows. Nothing extra special to get this!

In my camera bag

I have a Sony A99 full frame body, and a Sony A6000 crop sensor (with the Alpha lens adapter). I carry either my Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G lens or my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, depending on what long lens I need. I always have a Tamron 28-70mm f/2.8, my trusty Rokinon 14mm f/2.8, and my Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 to use. I also carry a couple of Vello Shutterboss wireless triggers, an assortment of Hoya ND400 filters (for each filter size), and a Vanguard tripod

Feedback

Being at the right place at the right time and having your equipment with you. When I travel, I'm always carrying my cameras so that I can capture whatever the moment brings. Sometimes it's just trusting your gut with the lighting. That's the beauty of photography....you capture what you see!
