Wonderful close-up. I lived in Cameroon for four years, but never had the pleasure of seeing this lovely bird. I lived in a very dry area, though.

Behind The Lens

Location

While traveling to British Columbia we took a detour and visited a bird sanctuary. This tropical beauty is called a Green Crested Turaco and my lens was just drawn to it.

Time

This is one of my favorite "close up" images. The photograph was taken at the end of the day after a full day of hiking and exploring.

Lighting

I used a flash to gain some extra "highlights" to showcase this image.

Equipment

My "go to" camera is a Nikon D5000 with a 16-300 mm lens.

Inspiration

The color of this bird is truly amazing and it is absolutely beautiful. So unique.

Editing

Minimal fine tuning using the camera edit settings on iPhoto.

In my camera bag

My reliable Nikon D5000, assorted lenses and my iPhone for the unexpected photo opportunities that present themselves.

Feedback

Try and pick the best angle to capture the optimum light and image. Take multiple shots, using various angles. Close ups are amazing to help you capture texture and detail.
