This was a great fun filled day at a Community gathering at Horse Power Ranch for the Holiday Celebration of 2016.Time
I had a hard time getting this shot as it was in the middle of the afternoon and there where so many people there milling around, it was the busiest time. I saw the beautiful light coming through the trees and knew I had to try to get the shot. After finding my spot, I scrunched down pretty low to shoot up into the scene in between a family waiting for their ride on the buggy.Lighting
Beautiful lighting glowing through the trees of this shot and I loved how the dust under the hooves just seemed like little clouds on the ground. There seemed to be an excitement in the air with all the activities and holiday cheer as well.Equipment
I had just received my new Nikon D7100 the week before, which I have wanted for such a long time. I was learning the new system which was quite different from my D5000, so using my 35mm-1.8, as I was walking around the grounds with the family and Grand Children, I didn't want to carry any extra gear, just an easy day. This was shot at ISO 200, 1/200 sec. @ f-5.6.Inspiration
The grounds at the Ranch are so nice, we had been there the year before and loved the horses and the opportunity to just have a fun day with the family. The lighting was the best there through the trees and the excitement of all the people waiting for their turn for a ride. I watched for a while the horse and buggy going around the turns through the trees to see at which point to take the picture and be able to get the shot without people being in the way.Editing
I always start out in Lightroom to get all my pictures started then into Photoshop CC. Mainly in this photograph I wanted to get the glow of the lighting as I saw it & then added contrast to finalize the look. All basic edits within Photoshop. In my camera bag
I am an Amateur, so fancy equipment is not in my bag. I am excited to have my new Nikon D7100 which was an upgrade for many years with a Nikon D5000. I always bring either my 35mm or 50mm 1.8 for easy carry when out and about, and my 300mm when shooting outdoors at the farm where I board my horse or any nature outings in the local area.Feedback
I live in Florida, outside of Orlando, so it is pretty hot and sunny most of the time. I would love to try to take many of my photos in the early morning or later in the day, because of the sun being so hot and bright most of the time. However, many times the events we go to are in the middle of the afternoon, so I try to stay in the shade and shoot towards to light for back lighting scenes, which are my favorite. I am a firm believer to just keep learning anything and everything you can and practice! I have joined many Photography Clubs on the internet to learn from and participate in the Challenges which inspire me to keep shooting!
