Location
This was taken at Lake Jesup Conservation Area in Geneva, Florida, while out riding our horses on the beautiful wooded trail. I stopped to take some pictures of the beautifully moss cover tree line when right above us this wonderful guy was just watching us. Luckily I was able to steady my horse long enough to catch this picture before he flew over us into the woods. It was a magical site for me!Time
This was taken around 10:30 a.m. before the heat of the day crept up on us. Florida can be pretty difficult in the summer months for riding our horses, so earlier morning is always the best time of day. The tree covering here at Lake Jesup is very nice & gives us much shade & relief from the sun. It's a beautiful area to ride.Lighting
Being that the trees cover most of the trail, the lighting is very nice most of the time. You just need to be aware of the direction of the sun coming in. You can actually get some nice star bursts from the sun coming through the trees in the afternoon when the sun isn't high in the sky.Equipment
At this time I had my Nikon D5000 and Nikkor 55-200 ml lens. Its a nice lens for distance yet not too big to carry in my saddle bag.Inspiration
The beautiful scenery at these trail sites keep me coming not only for the photo opportunity but for the wonderful time exploring on horseback & time with my girl buddies. Luckily Mr. Owl decided to grace us with his presence which will always be in my memory of a great day.Editing
Actually, other than brightening up some & some detail work on the actual owl this was a nice image strait out of camera! Darkness in the woods can be a problem as it is covered greatly with overhanging trees along the trail. In my camera bag
I have since this photo was taken advanced to a Nikon D7100 camera body, and do keep my 200 ml lens with me at most times when outdoors. I also, love my 50 ml and for close up, portrait style images I love my 85 ml of course.Feedback
I am more of a outdoors type person, loving the trails, beaches, etc. I very rarely go out actually looking to take specific images, it is more of a happening at the time thing for me. So I would say, just go out and enjoy the area, take sometime to walk & observe the area you never know what you might find.
