Location
This photo was taken on the shores of Lake Vermillion in Banff National Park Calgary AB.Time
I got to this spot about an hour and a half before dawn to pick out a spot, and get situated on the shores of the lake. I tried a few different compositions, but settled on this one that I particularly found appealing.Lighting
The light at this location was awesome. Right before sunrise, I started to see some beautiful colors start to reflect on the clouds from the sunrise. By looking at this picture, you can tell why they call it Lake Vermilion!Equipment
I use a Manfrotto CF Tripod with a Pentax 645Z and 28-45MM Lens. This photo was taken at 28MM. I bracketed these shots to make sure I got to capture the full dynamic range of colors.Inspiration
We were visiting Banff National park in Canada, and I hooked up with a fellow photographer who was kind enough to show us around to the prime spots to capture. We started out at this location for sunrise, and took a long tour all around the surrounding area to capture all the lakes and beautiful mountains. I love to capture sunrises, and the many colors that get reflected on the clouds, and the water. One of my favorite things to capture!Editing
This picture was post process in Lightroom for color adjustment, then I brought it into Photoshop to make some other color corrections. From there, I went into the NIK Collection from Google, to make more adjustments. In my camera bag
I always carry my backup camera when I go out, a Sony A7RII, along with some spare lenses. I always travel with multiple fully charged batteries, and also a battery pack, just in case something happens with my batteries. Rain covers are a must for my gear, as the weather can change on a moments notice.Feedback
I always go out prepared for the worst, and hope for the best. If the place I have earmarked for sunrise does not work out, I always move to another place for some golden hour shots. One thing I always like to say, is that you never know what you could have captured, if you don't keep trying. I have been to the same place multiple times over a few weeks, just for chance at better light or conditions. Keep trying!
