Location
This photo was taken at the Iezer Lake, Ialomita, Romania.Time
We arived at the location at about 3 PM. It was Christmas Eve and the location couldn't be better. It usualy snows at this time of the year in Romania, but not this year. It was an incredibly hot weather.Lighting
I wanted this image to be a romantic portrait. Well, nothing goes better with that but plain old natural light.Equipment
My old Canon 5D and the 50mm 1.4. I put the camera down, focused manualy and joined the shot while the timer started.Inspiration
The scene, by the lake, because it's a beautiful view; and my beautiful model Iolanda, who is a joy to spend time with.Editing
I'm a huge fan of color grading, and i tend to use it in some of my portrait work as well. On this specific image i mixed worm with cold to get the complemetary colors that i wanted. I believe that if you shoot in color you have to go by the color rules most of the time.In my camera bag
I love shadows, a good quality bokeh and contrasty colors. That's why i shoot with the Canon 5D along side the 50mm 1.4 and the 24mm 1.4.Feedback
This kind of photograph is one of those that tell a story. And sometimes story telling is not an easy thing, because in some situations you have to combine multiple elements and get the right colors (if you like to shoot in color), to aquire the desired finished product. The best thing to do is to plan your photo sessions in advance, and have an ideea of what you are aiming for. For this actual shot i had to improvise. We weren't there to shoot this picture, but we did, and i'm glad to share this with you all.
