Not really ;) but another photographer and I both thought the cloud made it look like Half Dome was erupting. This by the way is the same cloud that is blue gray in my "Half Dome at Dusk photo but taken a little before this one.
Best viewed with black background :)
There were three of us at first waiting on Sentinel Bridge for the show to begin but it was getting late and it didn't look like anything was going to happen. Infact one guy did leave (he missed literally a golden opportunity :). We were almost giving up ourselves and then we noticed the hint of color on the cloud and it didn't take very long to turn bright orange. In fact we were both so enthralled in taking pictures of it we almost missed the show behind us in the meadow where the sun was actually going down. That is where I got my Meadow sunset shots.

We were just there, but at the wrong time of year to witness this. Fantastic shot and edit!

Remarkable photo. You are correct, it does look like the mountain exploded.

What an incredible shot of Half Dome in Yosemite. I had the pleasure of being out there but it was way before digital cameras. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get back out there with my Nikon D90 ! Beautiful work !

This was taken on Sentinel Bridge in Yosemite Valley Yosemite National Park.Time
This was taken Nov 22, 2013 at sunset.Lighting
This shot was amazing because everything was grey and we almost gave up on there being any color.Equipment
For this shot I used a Nikon D600 with 16-35mm lens and this was hand held.Inspiration
There were three of us at first waiting on Sentinel Bridge for the sunset to begin but it was getting late and it didn't look like anything was going to happen. The grey cloud that was forming above Half Dome looked like there was smoke coming from Half Dome and when it started turning orange it became even more spectacular.Editing
I processed this in LR and used a plugin from On1.In my camera bag
I usually carry 16-35 and 80-400 Nikon lenses. I also carry an assortment of ND filters and tripod.Feedback
This is a once in a lifetime sunset shot of Half Dome and the Merced River so what I recommend is to go where you want to see beauty and wait a little while to capture it :).
