Location
This photo was taken behind Stovepipe Wells Campground Death Valley National Park.Time
This was taken around 6 am in the morning just as the sun was rising.Lighting
There was a storm front moving down the valley towards me with the sunrise occurring behind me so I was hoping for some interesting lighting and I wasn't disappointed.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D610 and 16-35 lens. This is a long exposure on a tripod.Inspiration
This was originally shot in color and then converted to black and white. On this photo I was trying to get the patterns in the sand as well as the light and colors of the sunrise. When I converted it to black and white I got to accentuate the contrasts of the many shades of gray.Editing
I processed this in LR and using a plugin from On1.In my camera bag
I carry along with my D610 a 16-35 mm and an 80-400 mm Nikon lens. I cary a lightweight tripod and ND filters.Feedback
It was dark enough that morning that I could put my camera on bulb and experiment with the shutter speed to get the best exposure I was looking for.
