The rock’s color cast doesn’t match the lighting that would be produced by a stormy sky such as this. Also your mask is to sharp along the tops of the mountains. The balloons almost look natural.

Location
Arches National Park.Time
It was taken in late afternoon when the sun was beginning to approach the horizon. It gave the shadows to highlight the ruggedness of the terrain.Lighting
The intensity of the sun lowering in a late afternoon landscape is essential to dramatic shadows and depth perception.Equipment
Sony A350. It was hand held.Inspiration
Every aviator whether fixed wing, rotary wing, balloon, etc. has or will face the challenge of approaching adverse weather, lowering ceiling above and rough terrain below. This picture brings that challenge into focus. I depicted two hot air balloons in a deep valley with a storm just over the rim. The balloonists guiding their machines will have to make a decision. Do we land here or continue on?Editing
Yes. The land was tinted from its original red-brown and the sky was darkened to depict the potential onset of turbulent air.In my camera bag
When I carry my bag I usually have 4 lenses: Sigma 20mm, 50mm, 105mm macro and a 70-200mm zoom.Feedback
I most cases those who have experience in a particular field have a much more emotional reaction to a photo in that field. Airplanes are most exciting, but capturing them in flight is tremendously exciting. I have some flying experience. So it was easy to appreciate the emotions these pilots of these balloons would feel in that situation.
