Early afternoon, although as it was in the jaguar enclosure, it didn't make any difference to the lighting!Lighting
Quite diffuse and low level lighting, as it was indoors and with a lot of vegetation, plus this was shot through glassEquipment
Nikon D5100 with Nikkor 55-300mm telephoto lens, hand held , no flashInspiration
I love big cats and this one looked particularly enigmaticEditing
cropped, contrast adjusted, slight lomo & Orton effects (using Picasa)In my camera bag
I tend to carry my Nikon D5100 mostly but also my Nikon P900 Coolpix and sometimes a Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens for more wide angle shots. I also have an Olympus TG-1 which is compact and waterproof for rainy days! I do have a monopod and tripod but don't often use them, but I always carry spare batteries and SD cards. I have macro kit, flash gun and filter kits too that I use from time to time.Feedback
I use a wide aperture to isolate the subject and keep the ISO fairly high (640-800) to ensure good shutter speed can be used if the subject moves. I like to include some background for context but also to fill the frame with the subject.
