Location
This photo was taken in Dinant, Belgium, the hometown of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.Time
This was a day trip to Dinant. The fact that it was a cloudy day, with a very nice pattern of clouds in the sky, made for a very interesting photo outing, much better than I would have expected.Lighting
The clouds in the sky made it possible to get an excellent light even in the late morning.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 5D Mkiii with a Canon EF 24-70 mm zoom, all resting on a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I love reflections, on glass, water, basically anything that has some reflective qualities. Seeing the perfectly smooth surface of the river and the nice reflection of the town buildings, I coildn't resist taking a few photos. I have one which looks exactly like this one, but with the reflection "disturbed" by the wake of a boat that passed just after I shot this one. I cannot decide which one I prefer...Editing
Quite simple post-processing with Lightroom, playing with white balance and contrast, but nothing major. In my camera bag
The Canon EOS 5D Mkiii, this 24-70 zoom, one 70-200 and a macro 100 mm lens, in addition to a tripod, although I confess sometimes I am too lazy to carry the tripod, with the inevitable result that I always regret having left it at home...Feedback
My only advice is to be patient. You don't always get the good light, or the perfectly smooth river surface, or the "right" clouds, so keep going back to the same place if you believe the potential is there, or just do something completely different to take adavantage of the conditoons you find. And, above everything else, don't take any advice, do what you feel like doing!
