Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near Dinant, in Belgium, in November 2015,

Time

The photo was taken shortly after sunset, at 6:15 pm.

Lighting

I was driving home after a day in Dinant when I saw the sky looking on fire in my rearview mirror. I stopped the car, walked a bit to find a composition that pleased me, knowing that this show of colour would last only a few minutes.

Equipment

I shot this with a Canon EOS 5D mk iii and a Canon EF 24-70 mm lens, hand-held

Inspiration

The view of the sky "on fire" was too great to walk away... It was one of those moments when I just had to stop and take photos!

Editing

I shoot in Raw, so I always do some processing, generally in Lightroom, as was the case with this photo. I slightly reduced exposure and did some tone adjustments to bring out the great sky. Apart from that, just some cleaning of dust spots.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon EOS 5D (now a mk iv) and generally carry two zoom lenses, 16-35 or 24-70 depending on what the plans are for the day and a 70-300. A sturdy Manfrotto tripod and, also depending on the plans for the day, some ND filters and a polariser. And the, lots of batteries, memory cards, cloths.

Feedback

Grab the opportunities, a sun like this doesn't show up very often!
