This is a defunct railroad bridge down in the Flats in Cleveland, Ohio. It is raised up in the air because it sits right on the banks of the Cuyahoga River. There is another section of this on the other side, although it is not as covered in vines as this side.

Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio

Time

This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon on a really cloudy and cold winter day.

Lighting

The day was very cold outside, the lighting was extremely overcast and a winter storm was coming in off of Lake Erie.

Equipment

Nikon D3100 , kit lens

Inspiration

I love this structure, it's an old train tressle used to haul coal over Lake Erie that is now out of order, It sits next to my favorite music club downtown, The Music Box Supper Club, right on the banks of Lake Erie. I think what I like most about this structure is that they have just let nature take it's coarse on it, and the vines contrast so well with the dark rust of the tressle.

Editing

I did some post processing in Lightroom , using a Sepia preset for tone, and then just used the highlight, contrast, sharpening, clarity and shadow sliders until I achieved the look I wanted.

In my camera bag

Until I upgraded to My Nikon D800 and 24-70mm lens, I always carried my D3100, D300 and a variety of lenses with me, a tripod, an a SB800 external flash.

Feedback

When I go out to shoot Landscape and Architecture images, I look for the most unique structures, angles and landscapes I can find. It is not all about the quantity of the images I take when I go out shooting, but the quality of work I bring home with me.
