This was shot about an hour before sunriseLighting
I took several exposures. One exposed the sky correctly, but the foreground was very dark. I corrected for the foreground, but then, the sky was blown out. The balance between the two was so far off that exposure bracketing was not the way to go. I did not have a flashlight in my bag, but I did have my iPhone with me. I set the shot up again, set the exposure for the sky, and as soon as I triggered the shutter, I used the LED on my iPhone and started painting the foreground.Equipment

Blue Hour is always an inspiration. As I was walking down the beach, I spotted these stubborn ice formations that were left over from several of our winter freezes. Knowing this particular beach, the Bay Bridge and all the angles, I wanted to anchor the Bay Bridge and the Chesapeake with these Ice Rocks.Editing
Just the usual RAW import and corrections in LR, mostly level, balance and crop, all subtle. I did remove a few hot spots from the long exposure in Photoshop and then added a little warmth via skylight filter.In my camera bag

Having knowledge of the shoot site is very important, especially when shooting at sunrise, as the light is fleeting and ever changing. You don't want to miss the light because you are still looking for that frame. And even if you familiar with your location, you still need to keep an eye out for any unusual or interesting subjects. You would be amazed at what washes up on these beaches. For low light landscapes, or any landscapes, a tripod and remote release are a must. Don't be afraid to get dirty or wet. Change your perspective by getting low to the ground. Make it a bit more interesting.........
