Location
This photo was captured at Tree Tops park in Davie, Florida. I chose this particular location because of its nature trails.Time
I like to shoot as early as possible and this park opened at 8:00 am. We didn't start until about 9:30 am when makeup was complete.Lighting
I wanted a play on shadows and while I love natural light, I chose to use my Nikon SB-910 Speedlight which was mounted in an octobox atop a mono-pod. With the single source of light directed downward, I was then able to get that beautiful highlights in her hair and enough fall-off to round out the base of the image.Equipment
This was taken with a Nikon D600, Nikon 85mm, hand-held, speedlight affixed to a mono-pod in a soft-box.Inspiration
I love really artsy photos especially when they're set in nature. Certain models inspire me to create certain looks and Lynette, my model, did just that!Editing
I always do post-processing on my work because I like to create a mood with my images. First and foremost, I love to create beauty...so I strive for edits that are flattering. I hate over-processing skin so I always try to leave as much texture while evening out the light and dark areas with frequency separation. I selectively punch certain colors with either vibrance or saturation to and then I add drama with contrast. While my editing technique is pretty much the same across the board for this type of photo, I do tweak the process according to the mood and feel I need to portray. In my camera bag
I always have my speedlight, 85mm and 80-200mm lenses with me. While I often use my camera's spot-metering, I always keep my trusty light meter with me at all times! If I'm using strobes, I'll have several Pocket Wizard triggers for my Broncolor kit.Feedback
I love the Fine Art look and feel and I find that natural light works best. Even though I shot this with modified light, natural light is my favorite way to go as the challenge is looking for light that creates the mood I'm looking for!
