Believe it or not this was taken in my basement not outside, the window is a piece of plexiglass sprayed with water, the curtains are an old sheet i ripped in half and hung from some wires from the rafters so I guess you could say this is a studio shot.Time
It was around 12 noon or so on a cold Feb morning, to ugly to shoot outside but I had kind of a deadline to get the shot I had in mind.Lighting
Nothing real Technical about the lighting it was lit with the two 4 foot fluorescent light fixtures in my basementEquipment
I used my Canon Eos rebel XSI with my kit lens @44mm set on a tripod f/5 at 1/4 sec ISO 100 and a remote trigger so I could be close to the glass to spray the water while I shotInspiration
I belong to a local Camera club that holds a monthly contest and the themes for this month it was through glass. I had asked my son Rick (who is turning out to be a wonderful model for me ) if he could look sad as if he wanted to go out and play but it was to nasty outside. I shot around 30 frames that day but this one really captured the emotion I was looking forEditing
I didn't do much with this one just some cropping and converted it to B & W ( I had shot it in color but the curtains were light pink and just didn't help with the emotion of sad and gloom I was trying for.In my camera bag
Oh boy lets see there is my Canon Eos rebel XSI, with the 18-55 kit lens ,an EF-S 55-250mm (love this lens) , also a 75-300mm as well , My Flash is a Sigma EF-610 DG Super, also always have my Canon PowerShot SX260 HS ( witch is pretty impressive for a point and shoot ), and course all the little things like filters and batteries, cables and remotes and I always carry a garbage bag (for rain protection )Feedback
My best advice if you can call it that is to think outside of the box and don't be afraid to try different things to get the shot, like I had said this shot was not outside but my idea was for it to be from outside looking in and I think I achieved it with some props I had laying around, If you're like me photography is a passion so let that drive you to get whats in your mind on film (or on an SD card LOL )
