What can I say? I love coming here at every possible opportunity as no 2 days give the same result. When there is an element of cloud it just adds to what is normally a stunning scene, at this time there was maybe a minute or two before the sun set behind the distant mountains so just watching the cloud movement gave me an idea of what to expect as the sun receeded.Equipment
Camera: Canon 60D. Lens: Canon 18-55 f5.6 Lens @ f12.Inspiration
Seeing the broken and streaming cloud layers I knew it would provide another unique view of this scene. With such vibrant colours I wanted to see a different and more indepth look at the shot so lowering the aperture and then setting the camera up for a 5 shot brackted sequence I had to hope that I could keep the shot sharp.Editing
The image was rendered and compiled in Photomatix Pro and then finished in Photoshop. In my camera bag

If you intend to shoot a sunset scene try to evaluate the scene the night or two nights before, note the movement and the direction of the sun as it sets and also the time it sets, also note any port movements, boats coming in or leaving at the same time each evening etc. On the day of the shoot get there early, walk around and get familiar with the scene, figure out possible framing opportunities and keep an eye on the reflections on the water. Remember as the sun goes down time is running out so be ready for anything, as the closer it gets to set events speed up, the clouds change, a plane comes into view leaving a jet stream etc, seagulls in flight, a boat comes in or out, the variables are crazy but the results can be incredible.
