This photo is taken on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland on an old abandoned boat laying by the beach.Time
I went to the beach on a beautiful autumn day in October - and this particular image is taken at 13:15 PM.Lighting
At this time of the year the sun is shining very low in Iceland - and in this case made a great light for the old boat.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II, ND-filter, Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I have always been fascinated by boats - especially old boats with good textures to photograph. They are of course very good subjects to photograph - very pictorial - but it is more; I think it is the stories they tell, stories of fishermen working on sea in various conditions, stories of life and death, happiness and sadness, stories with contrast of the real life.Editing
After a Camera Raw convertion I darkened the sky a bit and increased the colours suitably for my own taste. I used the dodge and burn tools to get more contrast in some parts of the boat and then I used curves to increase the contrast to the whole image and finally I sharpened it with Unsharp mask.In my camera bag
Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Canon Sl1 cameras, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II lenses. Canon Extender EF 2x II.Feedback
My best hint for landscape photography in general is to have mostly tree factors in mind: Light, lines and colours - and look how they can work best together in the environment with that main goal in mind to lead the eye of the viewer to the main subject and to strengthen the whole composition of the image.
