I love the detailing! The color blue is fast becoming a favorite to me, and the light behind it.....that seals the look.

Location
I took this photo from my upstair computer room window. The window faces East and in the winter when the temperatures are in the teens and single digits, frost forms on the storm windows. I get up for work when it is dark and wait for daylight to come. Earlier in the winter, I get the bluer tones on the frost crystals as the sun hasn't risen too high. In this image, I was able to get the sun rising behind the frost. It was a magical scene.Time
This was takenLighting
It was taken just after sunrise, which gave it the orange sun in the background. The blue tones were present because the sun was low and the early morning blue cast was present.Equipment
I used my Nikon D 300 with my 105mm macro lens. I did not use a tripod as I had to lean over my computer table to capture the image.Inspiration
Winter is a slow time for me for photographing anything. After work, there really is no light, so I only have the weekends to shoot, and am only inspired to try to shoot if we have a fresh snowfall. I discovered interesting frost on my East facing windows back in my early DSLR days, starting around 2004. Every winter, when the temperature is right, I shoot many frost pictures. I shoot early in the morning before the sun hits the frost and starts to melt it on the windows. This image was taken in January 28th, 2014.Editing
I use Photoshop to crop, and used Nik Color EFX for sharpening. In my camera bag
Today, I use my SONY A7II mirrorless camera, with the 24-240 mm lens. I also have my Nikon D 300 for macro with the 105 mm lens, and for wildlife, the 80-400mm lens. I have a Nikon D 800 converted to IR with a 24-120mm lens. Different cameras depending on the shooting expedition. I generally take 2 of those 3 with me on any one trip.Feedback
Take lots of pictures, trying different settings. Since I had to handhold my frost images with shooting in low light, I shot many to ensure that some would be crisp and sharp. I moved a bit and shot all angles and variations of the frost patterns. There are a lot of duds and every day brings a different frost pattern. It all depends on the weather, so you have to be patient. This year, I had only one morning to try for frost.
