Location
I shot this photo in my house. I back lit the shell to have the orange color glow through the shell.Time
mid afternoon, indoors.Lighting
I used a flashlight to back light the shell so that the color could shine through the shell.Equipment
Nikon D 200, macro lens 105 mm. tripod, timer and flashlight shining on back of shell.Inspiration
I had seen other cut nautilus shells photographed, and was loving the spiraling pattern of them. I went in search of finding myself a sliced shell to photograph.Editing
I shoot raw, and use Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop to edit my images. In Photoshop, I use some of the plug-in filters from Nik Color Efx Pro.In my camera bag
When I shot this picture, I used my Nikon D 200 and assorted lenses. Currently, I have a Fuji mirrorless XT-1 with 2 lenses. My Fuji is my landscape and travel camera. I had my Nikon D800 converted into an IR camera. I use my Nikon D 300 with 80-400mm for shooting shorebirds and other wildlife. I use my 105 mm lens for macro work with my Nikon.Feedback
If you really like a particular type of image, study it and experiment with the same or similar subject. Don't be afraid to ask questions of photographers you admire. Many are willing to share what they did to achieve the shot.
