Nice work! I have gazed at this ceiling for hours and truly love it!

Behind The Lens

Location

Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. The glass is in the ceiling as you enter.

Time

Early evening, although since I was inside, lighting was artificial.

Lighting

Artificial lighting is not my preference but sometimes you just have to take what you are given. Therefore I had to shoot at ISO 1600 (when my preference is ISO 50 - usually with a tripod).

Equipment

Nikon D300, Nikon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. ISO 1600 @ 24mm, 1/60th sec @ f/4.5. No flash.

Inspiration

The color and translucency of of blown art glass has always intrigued me. The lighting behind the glass displayed the variations in color so well.

Editing

No post-processing although in retrospect, I could have added a bit of Clarity in Adobe LIghtroom.

In my camera bag

I have several camera bags and I use them according to the expected time in the field and number of cameras, lenses, and types of tripods I intend to use: - Urban Photography: LowePro Slingshot Edge 250 - Multi-day/Multi-Lens Photography (where enough space is a problem): ThinkTank Speed Demon V2.0 - Long Trip (Weight and Size No Issue) Photography: LowePro Flipside 500 AW II Sony A6600 and a6500 mirrorless cameras. I converted to Sony from Nikon due to weight issues. Lenses: Sigma 16mm, f/1.4- Sigma 30mm, f 1.4 - Sony 10 to 18mm f/4 - Zeiss 16 to 70mm, f 4 - Sony 18 to 200mm, f3.5/6.3 - Zeiss Batis 85mm, f 1.8 - Sony G-Series, 90mm Macro, f/2.8 - Sony G-Series, 70 to 300mm, f4.5/5.6 - Four Sony batteries for the a6500 and two for the a6600 - Sony Battery chargers for a6500 and a6600 - Sony RMT-DSLR2 Remote Control - Various lens and sensor cleaning fluids, papers, and tools, including a Giotto “Rocket” air blaster - One 128 GB Sandisk Extreme (150Mb/sec), Four 64 GB Lexar Pro 633X (95MB/sec) SD XCI cards As needed, I use a Gitzo GT1541T carbon fibre tripod with Markins Q3 (Arca-Swiss type) ballhead and L-Shape bracket accessory for mounting to a camera to allow vertical and horizontal framing of shots. I have owned at least 5 other tripods/ball heads in the past but this combination is absolutely the best. If weight is an issue, I use a lighter weight carbon fibre tripod/ball head and a carbon fibre monopod.

Feedback

Perhaps used a even wider aperture lens to capture more art glass.
