I took this photo of my daughter in our local cemetery as we were placing flags on the veterans gravestones.Time
This is one of my favorite photos. We were there early in the morning to place the flags for the veterans. The weather was perfect along with the light. It was a very fun and festive morning with doughnuts and coffee while the kids placed the flags.Lighting
I wanted to get her expression as she was placing the flags and the sun was in the perfect position for this. She was was taking her job very seriously.Equipment
Of course in this setting I couldn't use my tripod. I was practically on the ground with my Nikon D90 with 55-200 lens.Inspiration
I wanted to get the seriousness and the beauty of the event. I actually had the idea in my head before we got to the cemetery and was lucky to get what I wanted. We have many veterans in my family and wanted to honor those who served this country.Editing
I did a little post in lightroom for the shadows in her face and added a little saturation. The only other thing, I did was in photoshop. I adjusted her dress for modesty. ;-)In my camera bag
At the time of the pictures I would have my D90 and assortment of lens. Now I carry a D7100 and love it. The two lenses I generally use is the 55-300 and 18-140. I love using the 55-300 to get close up and not disturb the scene.Feedback
On thing I would say is try to imagine some of the photos you want, but don't limit your self to those. I caught of number of beautiful photos just by watching and being ready. Of course watch your light and shadows. For me it's also getting in the right position for what I want to get in the photo. Like this photo I had to get low and wait for the right moment for the shot. I wasn't in a position to pose her and retake the photo. Plus it would not have looked as intimate if I was standing up while I took the photo.
